“The Purple Ribbon” is about my personal experience and journey with caring for a family member with Dementia.
I’ve written this book as a self-help guide and to give better insight of this shared illness with the one afflicted and the caregiver. I say shared, because the one who cares for the individual afflicted will be greatly impacted by their condition.
Over the past several years while caring for my relative who suffers Dementia, I took time out from my busy career as a writer and social media. This seven year hiatus would help me have a better understanding of this disease which is genetic with a few women in my family. As a caregiver I had to adjust quickly to the demands of this disease and the daunting side- affects that comes with it such as getting to know the person all over again.
The anxieties, critiquing, praying and waiting for an answer and tolerance are all part of the caregiver day to day life, yet trying to maintain your sanity and health.
At almost sixty and after suffering Covid 19 I became afflicted with brain fog which symptoms includes, forgetfulness, lost words and mental fatigue. So with Dementia hanging over my head, no pun intended, I take this illness very seriously and have chosen to take precautions early to avoid or prolong this horrible gene that runs in my family.
I pray that you join me and a few others in this upcoming book by way of support and donations to fight against Alzheimer’s and Dementia that is dividing families. The proceeds from The Purple Ribbon book will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to further research and assist families with the much needed help to restore hope and peace. Thank you!
